This award was created by Charlottesville Democratic Committee member Terri DiCintio as a lifetime achievement award to honor the contributions of Drewary J. Brown, its first recipient and namesake. In addition to his community activism and advocacy for core Democratic values such as social justice, the fight against poverty, and the importance of racial equality, Mr. Brown’s legacy lives on in the Monticello Area Community Action Agency, which he founded in 1965. The award is given in recognition of current or past members of the Charlottesville Democratic Committee for their long-time service to both the committee and the greater community, especially those whose significant efforts may not have received the attention they deserve.
