The Charlottesville Democratic Committee is offering Political Internships in the months leading up to the November ‘24 election. The aim of this program is to provide Interns with a meaningful political experience and to provide tangible benefit to the work of the C’ville Dems.
Every Intern will:
- commit to at least 10 hours of work per week throughout the Internship.
- have an internship mentor who will provide training, weekly check-ins, and a final debrief.
- receive a weekly stipend of $150.
- start no later than Sept 3rd, possibly by mid-August, and conclude the internship on November 9th.
- receive a Certificate of Completion at the conclusion of the internship and is welcome to request a letter of references from their mentor.
There are 3 primary Internship focuses that are outlined below. Interested applicants are allowed to apply for multiple focuses, but only one will be granted per applicant.
1. DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS INTERNSHIP
The Digital Communications Intern will help arrange a new website for the Cville Dems, assist in social media strategy and content, provide input for the bi-weekly Cville Dems Newsletter, do research on best digital practices for political committees/organizations, and provide recommendations based on that research, and other digital communication priorities.
Qualified Candidates for this position should have experience in the areas listed above, have strong writing and communication skills, and be able to work well as part of a team.
2. FIELD INTERNSHIP
Field Interns will do active work in the field including canvassing, phone banking, and text banking. They’ll work with the Cville Dems to recruit, train and deploy volunteers and will help staff tables at events where we engage the local community. The’ll also be involved in field efforts aligned with the Biden/Kaine Coordinated Campaign.
The ideal candidates for this position are people oriented, energetic, and enthusiastic. This position requires some physical activity, including moving door-to-door in canvassing and lifting items 20 pounds or less (e.g. picking up tables, boxes of campaign materials, etc.).
3. YOUTH ENGAGEMENT INTERNSHIP
The Youth Engagement Intern will focus on finding ways to engage young voters. In simplest terms, the goal is to get young people to vote and vote for Democrats. Beyond that, the Youth Intern will work with the Cville Dems to find ways to connect young people to the Committee and its opportunities to serve and volunteer.
The ideal candidates for this internship are passionate about connecting with young voters. They should be strategic, friendly, and good at written/verbal communication.
