As the lone economist in the General Assembly, I’ve focused my legislative work on the financial challenges facing Virginia families. People have been stretched to the max, so I’ve worked to get us a fairer shake, protecting Virginians from sky-high medical debt, electric bills, unemployment traps, and unjust evictions. I’ve passed bills to make Virginia a safe haven for abortion in the South, steered a new wave of legislators in reforming our energy sector, and led the charge to protect our democracy from extremism. When I’m not serving in Richmond, I teach statistics in the School of Public Policy at UVA, training the next generation of Virginia leaders to be practical problem solvers.
