Mike Pruitt Is Running for the Fifth District Next Year

Posted on August 12, 2025

Headshot of Mike Pruitt in a jacket and shirt smiling as he runs for 5th District congressional seat.

Mike Pruitt announced his candidacy July 22, the second Dem this year aiming to defeat John McGuire for the 5th District congressional seat next fall.

Mike grew up in the rural Blue Ridge Mountains and served in the United States Navy. He currently works as a civil rights attorney and serves on the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors. Mike’s website says he’s running to help working families that are struggling to make ends meet, while Washington politicians are making things worse. His primary goals and issues are to provide more opportunity and affordability for families, safer places to live, quality health care, and more secure retirements.

Paul Riley is also running for the Fifth District seat, as noted in our early July newsletter. Scroll down for that news item.

Posted on August 12, 2025

Photo of Ingrid Gay holding a bouquet of flowers standing in an office with an American flag and Virginia flag and a skull in the background.

Ingrid is a third-year student at the University of Virginia, majoring in government with a minor in public writing & rhetoric. She helped with our social media committee last year and is ready to get back to work.

In the two years Ingrid has lived in Charlottesville, she has fallen in love with the city and all it has to offer. She loves trying new restaurants and exploring the city through runs. At UVA, Ingrid writes for the Cavalier Daily and is the Provisional Member Chair for the Washington Literary Society & Debating Union. In her free time, she enjoys baking and listening to audiobooks or podcasts.

This fall, Ingrid plans to work with Cville Dems to help increase social media presence and youth involvement. She hopes to help bring a Democrat back into the Governor’s office.
