Josh Throneburg becomes 5th District Democratic Nominee

Posted on April 14, 2022

Congratulations to Josh Throneburg, our candidate to take back the 5th District House of Representatives seat currently held by Republican Bob Good.

For those who haven’t yet met fellow-Cvillian Josh, check out his Facebook and Twitter pages and website until you can meet him in person at upcoming local events.

Josh’s campaign’s three top issues are climate, racial justice, and revitalizing small towns and rural communities.

Open Positions

We have important appointed positions and committee positions that are great ways to get involved and contribute your talents! Please contact cvilledemschair@gmail.com for more info.

Campaign Liaison — a fun and interesting role; you get to be on the front lines of multiple campaigns, learning who’s running and what they stand for.
Albemarle County Dems Liaison — attend the monthly Albemarle Dems meeting to keep them posted about our activities and also report back to us about their activities.
Breakfast/Events Chair — work with the co-chairs to plan and schedule monthly programs.
Voter Registration Committee — a great team of volunteers has been doing in-person voter registration and phone/email follow-up and it’s working: they’ve signed up over 730 new local voters who went on to cast ballots!
Voter Protection Committee — if you care about protecting American democracy and aren’t intimidated by the technical details and legalese, this committee needs your talents!
Fundraising Committee — Nancy Damon is reactivating it and needs group input on brainstorming some ideas.
Communications Committee — help keep our website and social media fresh! An hour or two a week is all it takes, no advanced tech knowledge is required. Contact communications@cvilledems.org if you might be interested in joining.

Calling all Photographers

Posted on April 2, 2022

Amateurs and pros are asked to submit their photos for all kinds of purposes, perhaps including a new website banner image. We’d love to have some good shots illustrating the kind of Charlottesville that Dems aspire to live in (e.g showing diversity of all kinds, people caring for each other, kids having fun, empowered women, etc. etc.).

That’s where you can come in. Please email us a photo (or two or three!) that you’ve taken that you think might fit that spec; we’ll give you a photo credit for any that we use and a big shoutout in the newsletter

Your Donations Help Turn out the Vote!

Posted on March 16, 2022

We Cville Dems are frugal; we don’t even have an office or our own phone#! But we can’t avoid some expenses: state party dues, printing voter registration information, website hosting, etc.
To help “keep the lights on” in our non-existent office:

  • Pay your $15 annual dues via our ActBlue account.
  • Make a donation. Setting up a small automatic monthly donation via ActBlue is super-easy and painless! Consider $5 a month, or whatever works for you.
  • Support our occasional fundraisers.

The Swords into Plowshares project is seeking community input on how Charlottesville might repurpose the bronze in the Lee statue to create new works of public art. Please take a minute to take its survey here.

Precinct MeetUps

Posted on March 15, 2022

The Cville Dems officers are starting to meet with precinct chairs to get to know everyone a bit better. Nancy, Dashad, Mary Ann and John met last Friday with Johnson Co-Chair Carrie Schaeffer, Carver Co-Chair Kathryn Laughon, and Key Rec Co-Chairs Barbara Shenefield and Erin Corbett at Cville Coffee. Views were shared about priorities, tactics, and ideas (as well as some colorful stories of how they all got involved with the Dems!). Carrie‘s idea of having informal backyard get-togethers in each precinct made quite an impression!
