This city council race, and only this race, will use ranked-choice voting for the first time in Charlottesville. Rather than voting for just one candidate by filling in a circle, you’ll rank each candidate as either your first, second, or third choice. Your preferred candidate will be ranked #1, your second preferred candidate as #2, and your third preferred candidate as #3… and the top two candidates win. For more details on ranked-choice voting, read this article and/or watch this video.

About Our Absent VA-05 Representative John McGuire…
Since he’s not coming to Charlottesville to hear from his constituents, Kristin Szakos is helping to organize trips his nearest office in Lynchburg so he does hear from us! Consider coming along some time; contact kszakos@gmail.com for information.
You can also write or call McGuire’s office to share your concerns:

April Recess Town Hall in Charlottesville!
McGuire’s feeble telephone town hall last month won’t do; he needs to face his constituents and answer their questions in person. Indivisible Charlottesville is organizing a town hall during his April recess (April 14-27). Stay tuned for time and place; we’ll have all the details in our weekly Call to Action email.
He’s been invited to attend, but if he doesn’t, Democrats and others will still hold the town hall to make our demands for “redress of grievances,” as the Constitution’s First Amendment guarantees.
Dems Keep Control of VA Senate with Special Election Wins
Three special elections were held on Jan. 7 for two VA Senate seats and one House of Delegates seat. In all three cases the party that previously held the seats retained them, so the Dems retained overall control of both chambers.
In Loudoun County, Democrat Kannan Srinivasan defeated Republican Tumay Harding in the VA-32 Senate race to succeed Suhas Subramanyam, the Dem elected to the U.S. House in November… and Democrat JJ Singh beat Republican Ram Venkatachalam to win Srinivasan’s vacated VA-26 House of Delegates seat.
In the 3rd race, to fill the VA-10 Senate seat that John McGuire vacated to primary Bob Good and then win the VA-05 House of Representatives race, Democrat Jack Trammell lost to Republican Luther Cifers.
Gov. Youngkin still presides as a Republican governor; more on the November 2025 gubernatorial race soon!
It’s Extravaganza Time Again in VA-05!
