Welcome to Our New, Shared Office Space for Canvassing

Posted on July 8, 2024

Photo of Senator Tim Kaine pointing to a poster that says "Virginia Hearts ♥️ Anne", his wife. Another poster behind him says "Virginia ♥️ Kaine."The Tim Kaine Senate Campaign and the Biden/Harris Presidential Campaign have opened a new office in Charlottesville:

Charlottesville Democratic Coordinated Office
1410 Incarnation Dr., Ste. 203
Charlottesville, VA 22901

Our local party will also use the space for canvassing and other activities related to getting Gloria Witt elected on Nov. 5 for the Fifth District House of Representatives seat currently held by Bob Good.

Sen. Tim Kaine also has an opponent, another Republican MAGA extremist, Hung Cao (e.g. anti-abortion, pardons for January 6 insurrectionists, etc.).

Kickoff for Cville Dems GOTV Thursdays Postponed until July 11

Posted on June 23, 2024

Poster using a wide variety of different letter and background colors used with the words "Turn out the Vote Thursdays, Phone bank, Have a Taco, write postcards to voters"We’ll postpone our kickoff of Get Out the Vote (GOTV) Thursdays at Ix Park until Thursday, July 11, 5-7pm.

Because the Coordinated Campaign will be having their Office Opening and Debate Watch Party on Thursday, June 27, 7:30 to 11:00 pm (see above), and because the following Thursday is the Fourth of July, we decided to postpone.

Hopefully, we will be meeting every Thursday thereafter through Thursday, Oct. 31.  On July 11, we will be all set to go with canvassing, phone banks, text banks, and postcard writing.  Please plan to join us on the lawn outside of Brazos Tacos on July 11. Since the picnic bench can fill up fairly quickly, please bring a blanket or chair to sit on the grass.

Postcard writing is an expensive undertaking!  If you can contribute to the cost of printing and stamps, please do so by going to our Act Blue Page and clicking on postcards and stamps:  https://secure.actblue.com/contribute/page/charlottesville-democratic-committee-1

In addition to talking about our activities for the upcoming election, we’ll have representatives from Sin Barreras, an advocacy organization which works with the Latino Community. AND we will serve Mexican popsicles from La Flor Michoacana, which is a good reason to come in itself!

This is an open meeting so please invite friends.

Will You Be One of Our Student Interns This Summer and/or Fall? Or Do You Know A Student Who Would Be Good?

Posted on May 25, 2024

college students informally seated in folding chairs listen to a male speaker holding a microphone. We’re looking for some college or high school students who can help us work on the Presidential, Senate, and Congressional campaigns this summer and/or fall. We’re able to offer a small stipend. The students will be doing social media, working to get out younger voters, canvassing, texting, phone-banking — all the many things that campaigns do to get out the vote!

If you might be interested in one of these positions, or know people who might be, please have them contact Josh Throneburg (joshuathroneburg@gmail.com) or Nancy Damon (nancycdamon@gmail.com).

Volunteer Efforts to Win in November are Gearing Up!

Posted on May 24, 2024

3 Cville Dem volunteers registering 2 new voters at our tent June 2022As soon as we know who the Democratic 5th District candidate will be, Get Out the Vote Thursdays will resume on Thursday, June 27 at IX Park. We’ll then meet every Thursday to canvass, phone bank, text bank (new for us), and/or write postcards. We’ll be reaching out to specific potential voters we identify in the City of Cville and the 5th District, and also coordinating with the campaigns to help them reach their targeted individuals. Together we can reach out to thousands of registered voters and turn them into actual Democratic votes this November!

We hope you’ll join us!

In the meantime, if your fingers are itching to start writing postcards, there are two groups (unaffiliated with the Cville Dems) with earlier meetup times:

  • Mondays from 10-12 at the Dunlora Club House; for more information, contact Mary Farrell at 703-655-3867 or wmekmf118@gmail.com.
  • Donna Shaunessey has organized a Postcards and Pastry meeting Friday May 24, 1-3pm; for details contact shaunesey@hotmail.com.

Voter registration efforts are already going strong. If you’d like to participate, please contact Suzanne (suzemichels@gmail.com) if you know of a local event or location ripe for our voter registration and/or rights restoration efforts or if you’d like to join the voter registration team!
