Volunteer – Lots of Options Every Thursday 5-7pm

Posted on October 1, 2024

Flier with a photo of several dozen Dems working during "Turn Out the Vote Thursdays”. The headline reads "Want to get involved?" and then says "Get out the Vote is every Thursday! Brazos @ IX Art Park 5-7pm"

Early Voting has begun… time for us to kick into an even higher gear!

We’re at Ix Park from 5-7pm on Thursdays, gathering by the picnic table outside of Brazos Tacos. From there, we spread out to do a number of different tasks. If you’re planning on writing postcards or making phone calls, bring a blanket or chair so you can sit on the lawn under the trees. If you want a drink or snack while you are working, you can sit at a table on the patio of Brazos. And, if you can’t stand the heat (or rain), you can grab a table inside Brazos.

REMEMBER: If you can’t come on Thursday, but want to help get Kamala, Tim, Tim and Gloria elected, check out the opportunities for canvassing and phone banking with the Coordinated Campaign.

CANVASSING WITH THE COORDINATED CAMPAIGN: Every Saturday, the Coordinated Campaign will send canvassers out at 10 am, 1 pm and 4 pm.  Every Sunday, they will send canvassers out at 1 pm and 4 pm.  Canvassers will be sent out from the Coordinated Campaign’s office at 1410 Incarnation Dr, Suite 203. To sign up in advance, go to https://www.mobilize.us/timkaine.

PHONE BANKING WITH THE COORDINATED CAMPAIGN: Every Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 pm,, the Coordinated Campaign will hold phone banks at 1410 Incarnation Dr, Suite 203.  Every Tuesday at 5:30 pm, they will hold a phone bank. To sign up in advance, go to https://www.mobilize.us/timkaine.

Let’s keep the huge national momentum going here! Volunteers are signing up and working at record rates for the Dems, and we need everyone’s assistance.

Here are some of our many volunteers, having a good time with communing with their fellow Dems while getting the job done!

Voter Registration Update

Posted on October 1, 2024

Photo of four Voter Registration volunteers group photo on Downtown Mall Summer 2024

Kudos to our Voter Registration team, which has registered more than 600 voters so far! Some 260 volunteers have  signed up to work, and 30 are regulars. Some people are doing registration work on their own, giving sheets back to Suzanne Michels for follow up. Two recent events yielded great results – the Charlottesville Pride Festival was incredible (40), and the Sabroso Festival also very good (10).

The voter registration team is scurrying to register UVA students in a variety of ways, both on grounds and on the Corner, and will start contacting those they’ve registered to help them make a voting plan. Contact Suzanne if you’d like to help with that very local phone bank: suzemichels@gmail.com.

Thank you, volunteers!!

Gloria Witt Steals the Show (is the Show) at Senior Statesmen Event

Posted on October 1, 2024

Gloria’s Republican opponent continues to duck debates with her, so she had the stage to herself at the well-attended event… and she did great!

Bo Sacks’ (Newsletter) Retirement

Posted on October 1, 2024

Photo of Bo Sacks standing next to someone wearing a lifesized Mickey Mouse head.

Bo Sacks is a newsletter producer extraordinaire: in 2010, he was inducted into the Publishing Hall of Fame, and he still puts out the world’s longest running e-newsletter, “Heard on the Web: Media Intelligence.”

Bo has been a steadfast member of the Cville Dems volunteer family, laying out and sending out our newsletter biweekly for the last 12 years. And before moving here, Bo was also a good Democrat in upstate New York, where he served as Vice Chair of the Columbia County Democratic Committee for nearly 8 years.

Bo’s decided that a dozen years was a good term to serve, and he’s decided to retire from his volunteer gig with our newsletter.

We wish you the best Bo; we appreciate all you’ve done over that long run, and we’ll miss your great contributions to the Cville Dems!

Early Voting Starts Friday, September 20

Posted on September 12, 2024

Photo of a political metal button reading “Early Voting” in the middle third with white stars above and below it (set against a blue background at top and a red background at bottom)

Early Voting at the Office of Voter Registration starts Sept. 20 during office hours (normally 8:30am-4:30pm, Mon-Fri) and ends at 5pm on Saturday, Nov. 2. The office is open the last two Saturdays before the election and may later set additional hours.

Three great reasons to do Early Voting:

  1. Avoid potentially long lines on Election Day!
  2. Once you vote you’ll stop getting emails, texts, and door knocks from the campaigns!!
  3. You’ll know that your vote will be counted (no complications from illness, travel, etc.)

We’ve updated our website with the latest Voting and Voter Registration info: check it out to learn how to register to vote, what your voting options are, how to find your polling location, and more!

NOTE: If you miss Early Voting for any reason, you can still vote at your precinct voting location on Election Day (11/5).
