Citizens’ Climate Lobby Potluck Picnic and Postcard Writing (7/14)

Posted on July 8, 2024

Photo from a 2022 UVA climate march of 3 UVA female students posing with a cardboard lifesize image of Greta Thunberg wearing a yellow jacket.

On Sunday, July 14, 1:00-3:00pm, at Pen Park Shelter #2, the Citizens’ Climate Lobby Charlottesville Chapter is putting on a potluck picnic and postcard writing event as part of the Environmental Voter Project (EVP).

All members, friends and family are welcome.

While sharing a meal and socializing, we’ll also write postcards to mobilize climate-friendly voters in Florida’s upcoming primary. We will have postcards and a brief script to copy. The EVP uses data analytics to identify environmental voters, then sends them tested and proven messages. They have a good track record of increasing environmental voter turnout.

Here are the important details (some of which are optional); the most important thing is that YOU be there!

FIND the picnic shelter by locating the tennis courts on Pen Park Road. Turn left at the courts. Parking is down the hill next to the shelters. Here’s a Google Maps link.

BRING a dish to share if you can, but no worries if you can’t! If you’d like, you can sign up here to see what’s needed.

BRING your own beverage or reusable water bottle, plate, and utensils. We’ll have a few compostable items and a jug of water if that’s not doable for you.

BRING your own favorite pens or small non-partisan stickers if you’d like. We’ll also have pens for you to use.

COMMIT to copying EVP’s exact postcard message; they’ve tested their wording, and we’re not allowed to ad-lib or change it.

DRESS for the weather and consider bug spray (the picnic area is near the woods). We’ll be infull shade.

CHECK your email in the morning; we may cancel or relocate in case of extreme weather.

Sen. Tim Kaine also has an opponent, another Republican MAGA extremist, Hung Cao (e.g. anti-abortion, pardons for January 6 insurrectionists, etc.).

Cville Dem Attend State Convention

Posted on July 8, 2024

On June 22, a full quorum of Charlottesville delegates went to Richmond to vote on resolutions and vote for national electors and state delegates to the Democratic National Convention that will begin in Chicago on Aug. 19.

It was a rousing day full of democratic visions and determination to elect Democrats straight down the line in November. VA05 candidate Gloria Witt and many others attended. A humorous and vibrant State Speaker of the House Don Scott chaired the day’s proceedings.

An official portrait of Charlottesville delegates, men and women, at the state convention to choose electors and delegates in Richmond, July 2024     Cville Dems are seated and waiting for a large auditorium to fill with more delegates to the state convention in July 2024.

Kickoff for Cville Dems GOTV Thursdays Postponed until July 11

Posted on June 23, 2024

Poster using a wide variety of different letter and background colors used with the words "Turn out the Vote Thursdays, Phone bank, Have a Taco, write postcards to voters"We’ll postpone our kickoff of Get Out the Vote (GOTV) Thursdays at Ix Park until Thursday, July 11, 5-7pm.

Because the Coordinated Campaign will be having their Office Opening and Debate Watch Party on Thursday, June 27, 7:30 to 11:00 pm (see above), and because the following Thursday is the Fourth of July, we decided to postpone.

Hopefully, we will be meeting every Thursday thereafter through Thursday, Oct. 31.  On July 11, we will be all set to go with canvassing, phone banks, text banks, and postcard writing.  Please plan to join us on the lawn outside of Brazos Tacos on July 11. Since the picnic bench can fill up fairly quickly, please bring a blanket or chair to sit on the grass.

Postcard writing is an expensive undertaking!  If you can contribute to the cost of printing and stamps, please do so by going to our Act Blue Page and clicking on postcards and stamps:  https://secure.actblue.com/contribute/page/charlottesville-democratic-committee-1
